Pasini thrilled with what Moto2 has to offer
Article from http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2010/pasini+on+his+first+GP+of+2010
A strong start to the season in Qatar gave Mattia Pasini a morale-boosting sixth place, a result that came after a battle with Thomas Lüthi and Pasini’s JiR Moto2 team-mate Simone Corsi.
Taking the time to assess his performance and also looking ahead to the season, Pasini said: “Things did not go especially well in the last tests in Spain. This was understandable, because everything was quite new to everybody. We tried several solutions, all very different. It was a process that took a lot of time but provided me with very valuable information.”
The 24 year-old Italian, who rides a Motobi chassis, continued: “The race was great fun, I was able to do well and gained some positions but I couldn’t catch the group of six riding ahead of me. It’s a shame because my lap times were in line with theirs, but the distance was too great to overcome.”
Giving his opinion on the new intermediate category, Pasini discussed what he views as a very level playing field which will offer a great spectacle throughout the season.
“The engines have sufficient horsepower and they respond with force. We have found a good setting. The bike still lacks a little something, and we must make it better when exiting corners. The good thing is that with the same engines it will be a hard fought Championship.”
He continued: “It’s a category on a level playing field, because everyone has two common things: engines and tyres. These are certainly not minor factors. Additionally, the level of competition is high. I started from 18th on the grid in Qatar and was only a second and two-tenths off pole.”
Concluding, Pasini summed up by saying: “The potential is there to be able to do well and be amongst the frontrunners. In Qatar I missed the chance to run at the head of the field but the times were the same, so the chances are there and are positive. I also feel comfortable with the team who are serious and prepared, and we must give 110% every time to continue getting better.”
