Moto2 Test gets underway at Valencia
Article from http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2010/moto2+midday+report+0
A busy Moto2 paddock had little time to recover from the final race of 2010 as they started work on preparations for 2011 immediately, with the commencement of the Official one-day Test at a cold Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia.
With 2010 World Champion Toni Elías departed for the premier class – and due to take part in the MotoGP Test starting on Tuesday – the Gresini Racing team sent out it's newly-confirmed line-up of Yuki Takahashi and Michele Pirro on their Moriwaki chassis, whilst former MotoGP rider Mika Kallio started work with Marc VDS Racing riding alongside new team-mate Scott Redding. Aleix Espargaró, another premier class rider making the switch to Moto2 for 2011, was also present with his Tenerife 40 Pons team as he took his first steps on the Pons Kalex.
Gaining an impression of the 2010 version of the 600cc four-stroke machine of his new Tech 3 team was British rider Bradley Smith, whilst new team-mate Mike di Meglio was joined by experienced MotoGP rider Colin Edwards in taking out the new version chassis of the French team's prototype.
Smith was not the only 125cc graduate with Pol Espargaró (Tuenti Speed Up), Randy Krummenacher (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) and Esteve Rabat (Racing Team By Quereseno) all taking in exploratory laps on Moto2 bikes. Freshly-crowned 125cc World Champion Marc Márquez was not present by midday however.
2010 World Championship runner-up Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar), Alex de Angelis (JiR Moto2), Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki) and Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing) were other notable attendees starting work for the forthcoming season in earnest, whilst Max Neukirchner was riding with MZ Motor.
In total 35 riders were on track – at the conclusion of the day's Test motogp.com will have highlights and a closing report.
