Luthi leads the way in Jerez

The Swiss rider’s lap time of 1’43.528 was 0.315s faster than the current championship leader Bradl who had set the marker in Losail. Lüthi finished third at Jerez in 2010 which was his best ever result at the circuit. Bradl’s highest placing at the circuit is fourth from his days in 125cc.
Third fastest in FP1 was de Angelis who was 0.671s off Lüthi’s best lap, he has a good record at Jerez with two podium finishes from the 250cc class. Fourth fastest was Italian Simone Corsi (Ioda Racing Project), who won the 125 race at Jerez three years ago. Corsi was 0.674s behind the quickest time set by Interwetten Paddock Moto2 rider.
Fifth quickest was Mika Kallio for (Marc VDS Racing). His British team-mate Scott Redding was eighth quickest, making sure both Suter’s for Marc VDS Racing were inside the top ten places. /p>
Local rider Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) finished sixth fastest, closely behind him was Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing Moto2), who was 0.801s off the top of the timings.
Completing the top ten, Frenchman Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing) and Dominique Aegerter (Technomag-CIP), who were just over a second off Lüthi’s best lap.
There were plenty of incidents early on in the opening practice for Moto2 with both Yuki Takahashi (Gresini Racing) and wildcard rider Steven Odendaal (MS Racing) taking falls, ending up in the gravel unharmed. Italian rider Alex Baldolini (Forward Racing) also crashed in the last few seconds of the practice.
