Barbera' equals best premier class result

Héctor Barberá had stated on Saturday that his grid position was not reflective of his good feeling with the bike over the course of the weekend. The Páginas Amarillas Aspar rider had found his best setting of the year for the Valencia round, but needed to show as much in the race. His opening three laps were key, as he moved up from 13th to tenth on the opening corner. Two laps later he had gained a further pair of places. Eighth and with the chance to impose his own pace, Barberá stayed focued despite the arrival of Álvaro Bautista. The final two laps saw a fight between the two, with Barberá the victor in the duel of the MotoGP rookies. Crossing the line eighth, Barberá equalled his best result of the season - that of the French Grand Prix at Le Mans.

"Here at home I wanted to get my best result and have a good race. This was one of the tracks at which I had the best setup of the entire season. I think that having more data available from the preseason test was vital here. I went out to enjoy myself and to make up as many places as possible on the opening lap. It is very important in this class to get a good start and to push hard from the off. If you hesitate then a lot of riders can pass you and make it extremely tough to get back past them. I went at full gas for the entire race. I wanted to ride my own race and I wasn't too worried when my pit-board showed that I had several riders around me. I really had a lot of fun fighting with Álvaro at the end, and managed to pass him to keep eighth place. Overall, I think that this was my best weekend of the year. I am happy, but not so much for the result as for the satisfaction with the job that we have done over the course of the year. I think that next year will be very important for me."
