Checa: "It's important to be in front"

After his practice and qualifying performances we expected a win, but Race 1 caused some doubts to creep in about Carlos Checa: "It was really tough in Race 1. I was lacking grip and had to fight hard for third place.

Then his team came up with some modifications which completely turned things around: "Race 2 was another story. I used the A compound tire, and I felt very good with it. I pushed hard to create a gap and then managed it. The tires were starting to fade at the end, and it was difficult to maintain my lines, especially because I had Melandri coming up behind me."

Now Carlos is looking forward to the next round: "I think I can do well in Holland, and I hope it stays dry. We had a good race there last year, and this season things are going better than they were last year."

And what does Checa think about Melandri overtaking Biaggi for second place in points? "What's important is being in front! The rest doesn't make much of a difference. It wasn't easy getting where we are, and it will be hard to stay here. We all need to concentrate, starting with myself, to avoid making mistakes."
