The confirmation follows an inspection of the new building, garages, pit lane, paddock and facilities by Javier Alonso, Managing Director of Dorna Sports and a representative of IRTA during a recent visit to Silverstone.
The spectacular new building, measuring 360 metres in length and 30 metres at its highest point, will further enhance Silverstone’s position as a premier racing destination, providing world class facilities for teams, officials and spectators alike.
In addition to being based in the new Pit and Paddock Complex, the riders and teams will line up on a new start grid at Silverstone on 10-12 June, situated between Club Corner and Abbey. The relocation of the paddock and start/finish line sees Abbey become Turn 1 of the 2011 British Grand Prix, providing the riders with a fresh challenge on Silverstone’s super-fast Grand Prix Circuit. The new track layout produced plenty of overtaking and received rave reviews from the likes of Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner in 2010.
A number of new and re-positioned grandstands are also being built around the complex, offering prime views of the new start / finish straight, first corner, final corner and new pit lane entry and exit.
Following Dorna’s inspection of the new Pit and Paddock Complex, Javier Alonso said: “It is very impressive. MotoGP will be one of the first events to use the new building when we come to Silverstone in June and that is very exciting for everyone involved. The facilities for teams, riders, media, officials and spectators are world class - there are very few circuits on the MotoGP calendar that are able to offer facilities like these.”
Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, added, “With 41 new garages, a race control building, a new podium, media centre, hospitality and VIP spectator zones, The Silverstone Wing will provide a world class facility where all forms of motor sport can be celebrated in style. We are delighted that MotoGP will be one of the first events to use the new facility, signifying an exciting new era for Silverstone.”
